Cardiff marathon logo

I started by researching Cardiff's main related visuals and history but the only real element that would work to communicate cardiff is the dragon from the welsh flag as it also has to relate to a marathon as well i thought i could emphasise the pointed tail as an arrow for the indication of movement or the direction to runners.





I started with the dragons head as a route plan of the marathon but this was too confusing to have as an icon and didn't necessarily communicate it was for a marathon.



I then played with the arrow aspect of the dragons tail to make shapes and ways in which to show how the two colour and tails come together relating to how a marathon brings people together.



The heart shape was the best initial logo design as it communicated health and running maintains a healthy heart. Although this idea looked to similar to an existing logo.

As my umbrella statement is to explore type as image i need to include this within the logo so i experimented with the letters c and m to make the heart shape and how they would appear standing alone.

It wasn't working successfully enough so i moved onto working with the letters further and came up with this idea which will be submitted. It is a rough drawing of the idea but once it is in illustrator it will be a lot clearer.



The dragon makes up the letters c and m and is relating to movement and the direction in which to run also the flame indicates speed.
